Updates at a Glance

Construction is complete on the fourth phase of our exciting five-phase renovation and the fifth phase work has all begun.

The original classrooms in the Rubin Nursery Wing are rebuilt; the activity area has been beautifully redone to reflect a warm and welcoming play space with a natural, outdoor feel; and the rebuilt playground is in use. These spaces are ready will be used for the start of this 2010-2011 school year. The remaining four classrooms, early childhood library and additional office are currently under construction and will be ready for use after the December break.

The second floor hallway has been completely refigured to include new conference rooms and a new and the relocated Grossmann Board Room and these spaces are all now open for use. The staff has moved to their new offices on the second floor making way for the construction downstairs for membership and nursery school rooms.

Work is also progressing on the new front entrance with its two double doors and new elevator as well as expanded lobby. This space is expected to be open in October.

The work on the new Youth Center is progressing nicely. The new Youth Rooms are ready for use with the relocated teen lounge awaiting furniture and the expanded Ben Bergen Youth Fitness Center awaiting equipment. These two spaces will be ready by mid-October each with two windows overlooking the Kaplen Gym.

We have started the work on improving the exterior lighting as well as lighting the walking path between the JCC and St. John’s Church. And, we started the work on the café space, membership offices and senior adult wing which will all be ready in January. The final pieces of the project, including the work on the Guttenberg Center for Special Services upstairs and upgrades to the crafts and ceramics room, will be completed by the end of January.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: From September 22nd -October 6th the main hallway downstairs will completely inaccessible. During this two week period travel from one side of the building to the other will need to occur on the second floor. After October 6 until the end of this phase in January there will be a walkway created for people to travel from one side of the building to the other on the first floor.

Before we know it, the JCC will be remodeled and revitalized…and all this construction will be just a memory. The cooperation and patience of the membership throughout this process has been remarkable, making this monumental transition so much easier. We thank everyone for their patience!
