Music School Facts

Founded in 1984

Serves nearly 500 students, newborns to adults

2.5 million dollars in scholarships awarded

Private lessons on strings, winds, piano, percussion and voice

Performing ensembles: orchestras, Young People's Chorus at Thurnauer, Jazz Big Band, chamber groups, jazz combos, and instrumental groups

An affiliate of the Young People's Chorus of New York City

Government grant support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts

Thurnauer students have performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Sesame Street, Bergen Performing Arts Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and Disney World

Thurnauer students and faculty have performed at the Jewish Home at Rockleigh, The Actors Home in Englewood, the Tenafly Public Library, Englewood Hospital and for many community organizations

Thurnauer students have performed with Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Bell, Paquito D'Rivera, David Finckel, David Broza and many other well-known musicians

Thurnauer alumni currently study at New York City conservatory pre-college divisions at Juilliard, Mannes and Manhattan School of Music and are members of the New York Youth Symphony

Thurnauer alumni have attended Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, Mannes, Berklee, New England Conservatory, The Colburn School, Cleveland Institute of Music, Rice University, Indiana University School of Music, and the Royal College of Music in England


Thurnauer students attend concerts together at Carnegie Hall, New York Philharmonic, 92nd St. Y, bergenPAC

Awards: Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Bergen County Department of Cultural and Historic Affairs

Named a "Major Arts Institution" by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts

Member, National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts

Faculty members have performed with such ensembles as the New York Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphonyh Orchestra, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Musicians from Marlboro, Atlanta Symphony, DeCoda, and the American Chamber Players
