We are excited to be looking ahead towards fall! As we get closer to September, we will confirm location of services and which programs will be in-person and/or virtual. We will follow the guidelines as set for by the CDC and local agencies, as well as parent request and comfort level.
Summer plans unpredictable? Want to continuing learning about music over the summer? Visit jccotp.org/virtual-music-learning-summer for all of our virtual lesson and class options.
Available for brass, percussion, piano, strings, winds, and
voice, the Young Artists Programs include opportunities for
monthly recitals and celebrations. Note: Suzuki guitar requires
eight parent education workshops. Students taking private lessons for the
first time can take a lessons-only program, but are encouraged to add one or more classes
or ensembles. After the first year, all private lesson students are required to add one or
more classes or ensembles to their program.
Choose a 30-, 45-, 60-, 75-, 90-, or 120-min. private lesson per week.
(Note: 60, 75, 90, and 120 min options can be divided into two lessons per week. Beginning students in violin, cello and piano are required to take two 30 min lessons per week.)
ADD ONE OR. MORE CLASSES AND/OR ENSEMBLES:
The notion of drummers playing together harks back to the beginning of mankind. Percussion Ensemble comes from that energy combined with the wealth of written pieces over the past century and fills a need for young players to have their own chamber music outlet. Students share melody, harmony and rhythm playing drums, marimba, timpani and many other instruments. Young percussionists improve overall musicianship, especially their skill in following a conductor. Intermediate and advanced percussionists have the opportunity to play as well in the Teen Town Jazz Ensemble and Thurnauer Symphony Orchestra.
Prerequisite: Students must have basic rhythmic reading skills with quarter, eighth and sixteenth notes, and rests. Basic keyboard ability with scales and treble clef reading is preferred but not conditional. Concurrent private lessons, either at the Thurnauer School or elsewhere, are required to learn parts.
Audition required for new students. Contact Robyn Searles at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule an audition.
Children love this fun “drumtastic” class where they learn to improvise, keep steady beat, play in a group, and develop their own rhythmic and dynamic musical ideas!
Instruments are provided. Parents are encouraged but not required to attend class.
