Putin and the Invasion of Ukraine

In these two lectures, JCC U favorite speaker, Jess Velona explores how Putin's invasion of Ukraine is rooted in Russia's traditions of autocracy, empire and often violent suppression of national mores. See how the Tsars and Lenin invaded, exploited and crushed resistance in Ukraine, culminating in Stalin's enforced, deliberate famine that killed millions.  Follow Putin's rise from a middling KGB agent to the center of post-Communist Russian politics, and his forging of a regime that turned its back on democracy and trumpeted a return to lost imperial glory.  Finally, trace the 20 years of Putin's escalating interference in Ukrainian politics, culminating in an invasion which has brought war crimes and genocide back to the heart of Europe.
