Waltuch Gallery

The Waltuch Art Gallery infuses Jewish art and/or works by Jewish artists into our shared cultural experiences. The exhibits are designed to ignite imagination and encourage people to connect the visual arts with philosophical and spiritual concepts through a creative Jewish lens.

The Waltuch Gallery exhibits rotate monthly, and feature the work of painters, photographers, digital artists and other creative designers.

Exhibits are free and open to the community, and all work is typically for sale. A portion of the proceeds support programming efforts at the JCC. The JCC also hosts an artist talkback dessert reception for each show.

Outdoor gallery exhibits are displayed throughout the Kaplen JCC Campus and indoor gallery exhibits are on the second floor of the main JCC building.

 SKETCH WHILE YOU TRAVEL
Art by Richard
Gerstman

The art in this exhibit is derived from Richard Gerstman’s sketches made during the 35 years that he traveled abroad. The drawings are all made at the scene, and no photographs are used to make the drawings. He believes that sketching, rather than photographing, enables him to concentrate more on the architectural and botanical elements, reproducing his favorite elements in their best color, light, and shadows. It becomes a challenge to make this art, and Richard remembers the details much better than if he had photographed them. Richard makes his original drawings into serigraphs, lithograph prints or oils at home. This exhibit includes signed, limited-edition prints from his drawings in Israel, India, France, Denmark, Amsterdam, Italy, Central Europe, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Morocco, and Nantucket Island. Richard Gerstman is a retired industrial designer and chairman emeritus of Interbrand Corporation. He studied art and painting at the University of Cincinnati with
R.L.Grooms and Ed Qualey, and more recently at the Art Student’s League of New York. His work has been exhibited at Main Street Gallery, Nantucket Airport, Tenafly Library, Art Student’s League of New York, and many corporate offices. He recently authored a published book titled “Sketch While You Travel,” which contains many of his drawings. Richard Gerstman lives in Tenafly with his wife, Jo Ann, and they have two children and three grandchildren.
